Qld: Horse stud staff flown to Brisbane for observation

BRISBANE, Aug 21 AAP - Two staff members from a central Queensland stud at the centre
of a Hendra virus outbreak are being flown to a Brisbane hospital for observation.

Vet Alister Rodgers, who handled a horse at the J4S equine stud which later died from
Hendra virus, is in a critical condition in Princess Alexandra Hospital after being diagnosed
with the potentially-fatal illness.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said two of the stud's staff members who came into contact
with infected horses at the stud were being flown to Brisbane for observation.

A third staff member is understood not to have taken up the offer.

The three staffers and Dr Rodgers have already undertaken a course of the anti-viral
drug Ribavirin in Rockhampton hospital.
