WA: Scandal has destroyed trust in corruption watchdog - oppn

Western Australia's opposition says public trust in the Corruption and Crime Commission
has been destroyed because a commissioner tipped off a suspect in an investigation.

Acting commissioner MOIRA RAYNER resigned after admitting she warned the former clerk
of the state parliament, LAURIE MARQUET, not to talk on the phone because it was probably
being bugged.

MARQUET is now facing 55 charges of corruption, drugs possession and theft.

Opposition justice spokeswoman SUE WALKER says there are still huge gaps in public
knowledge about the affair, and it has been stage-managed by the government.

She's calling on Attorney-General JIM McGINTY to make a full statement to parliament tomorrow.

WA's Director of Public Prosecutions ROBERT COCK is considering whether to lay criminal
charges against Ms RAYNER.
