Boy left disabled at birth set for GBP2.9m payout

A SIX-year-old boy who faces a lifetime of acute disability due to"substandard care" during his birth at Southmead Hospital is in linefor nearly GBP3 million in compensation.

Ian Clements, of Station Road, Winterbourne Down, is severelyphysically disabled after suffering brain damage when he was born inMarch 1998. London's High Court was told yesterday that North BristolNHS Trust - which runs Southmead Hospital - had issued an apology andagreed compensation in a deal worth about GBP2.9 million.
