Vic: Five police cars, helicopter involved in car chase

MELBOURNE, Feb 14 AAP - A dramatic police chase through Melbourne ended today when
the car being pursued crashed through fences and ground to a halt with steam and smoke
billowing from its bonnet.

Five police cars and a helicopter were involved in the chase, which began when a red
Ford Laser, believed stolen earlier, was spotted in suburban Eltham shortly before 6am
(AEDT).

A police car tried to intercept the car, but it sped off, a police spokesman said.

The chase continued through suburban streets until the car crashed through a locked
wooden gate at the Yan Yean Reservoir, and then through another wooden fence.

The car then slowed and eventually stopped, with steam and smoke coming from the bonnet,
police said.

No one was injured.

Two 17-year-old men were today being interviewed in relation to the theft of a motor
car, driving offences and an alleged burglary of a pizza shop, the police spokesman said.
