SA: Key Independent accuses Liberals of trying to destroy him

An key independent MP who may help decide the next South Australian government hasaccused the Liberal Party of trying to destroy him.

BOB SUCH -- who quit the Liberal Party in 2000 -- has claimed a resounding victoryas an independent in the seat of Fisher in the SA election.

With the final result of the election unlikely to be known for days, the Liberals areclinging to hopes of forming a minority government -- with the support of Dr SUCH andthree other independents.

But Dr SUCH says he's made no commitments to either Liberal or Labor, despite initialapproaches from the major parties.

He says he's not entered into any deals or agreements and is not obliged to anyone.

Dr SUCH says he ran as a straight independent and the Liberal Party tried to destroy him.

He says they put placed him as number five on the preference card and endorsed a candidateearly against him.

Dr SUCH says he must now determine what is in the best interests of the state and his electorate.
